A mask that obscures reality. A dependent entity animated by flesh and blood but itself an abstract shadow, a mirror, magic. It mesmerizes, enthralls, tantalizes yet fails to satisfy, always. Whatever information we could possibly desire is at our fingertips, an ever expanding archive, a marvelous tool. We are drawn in. Consumed. We generate information and IT feeds, siphoning information through incandescent tentacles linked directly to our frontal lobes. This beast manipulates our desire and in this way shapes our reality. We are truly plugged in.




We are markets to be plundered by this post modern Leviathan. This complex information system is the technological excrescence of the collective social history from which it emanates. The history of civilization, of extractive economics, of plunder, of colonialism, the myth of progress, Christian Nihilism and the dogma of "every man for himself and god against all", the Phoenician Octopus to the domineering Worm of American empire. We have crafted a system that mines resources more efficiently than we could have ever imagined; reduces components to their most base parts possible: pure information. We are the resource being mined. We have become the tools of our tools, this much is obvious. The scale of this is mind numbingly enormous. I pose this question half in jest: are we witnessing the rudiments of The Singularity?I say no but it is not an implausible question, which is an unnerving truth. Complexity increases and change is rapid; perpetual feedback systems are in effect. The limits of reality are being stretched.
